SimMedical Chosen to Pilot HeartCode BLS
BLS on the Move…..
Requiring healthcare providers to maintain their basic life support (BLS) or cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) qualification can be costly and time consuming for any healthcare facility. The American Heart Association through its recent partnership with Laerdal in developing and distributing simulation-based training, is introducing a new product in order to meet this need – Heartcode BLS™. HeartCode BLS™ offers a more cost-efficient and effective method for achieving staff member certification.
HeartCode BLS™ combines flexibility and accessibility to assist staff members in completing their annual or biennial BLS training. HeartCode BLS™ is comprised of two separate components: a web-based interactive program that can be accessed on the nursing unit or at home and the mobile skills station complete with an adult and infant manikin ready to provide practice and testing at the point of care (POC). Offering easier access to recertification, HeartCode BLS™ minimizes the clinical staff"s time away from providing patient care. In addition, staff members can progress through the program at their own pace. As a result, a great amount of satisfaction among staff members can be realized, as well as, an overall cost benefit for the healthcare system.
HeartCode BLS™ is currently being piloted through SimMedical at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) facilities.
